St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun Hat suncatcher

Leprechaun hat craft idea for kids

Leprechauns can be considered a mascot for the St.Patrick’s Day holiday as they are closely related to this holiday.

Legend has it that leprechauns hide their pot of gold at the end of rainbows and if you catch them they will be forced to give you their pot of gold and grant you two other wishes.

And once you catch them, remember to not take your eyes off them because they are known to play tricks on you.

Hmm…Quite tricky ones, aren’t they?

Leprechaun stories are exciting and fun for kids.

And there are quite a lot of books written on leprechauns. So, for this St. Patrick’s Day, it’s a great opportunity to pass on the leprechaun stories to kids and also do this fun leprechaun hat craft with them.

Here we are making a leprechaun hat suncatcher.

Shall we start?

Before moving on to the craft, we would appreciate it very much if you will check out our Youtube channel and subscribe to it. We regularly upload new easy craft tutorials that are different from what we publish on the blog. Thank you!

First, draw an outline of the leprechaun hat on white paper. You can do this first with a pencil and then draw on it using a black marker pen.

Here are the measurements for the hat:

  • Length of the top side of the hat = 9cm
  • Breadth of the top side = 12cm
  • Length of the base part of the hat = 13cm
  • Breadth of the base part = 2cm

Now to make the leprechaun hat suncatcher, we need a transparent paper or self-adhesive sticker paper.

What we used here is transparent paper.

If you are using a sticker paper, you can stick it onto the paper on which we drew the outline, and follow the remaining steps (pasting tissue papers).

If you are using transparent paper, here are the steps:

First, using some clips attach the transparent paper onto the white sheet with the hat outline.

Next, cut some tissue papers into small pieces. Next, apply some glue onto the transparent paper within the outline of the hat.

Paste the tissue paper pieces one by one onto the paper and fill the hat outline.

Now, take another sheet of transparent paper and apply glue onto it. Stick it on top of the first transparent sheet on which we pasted the tissue papers.

So, now the tissue papers are sealed safely between the two transparent paper sheets.

The next step is to copy the outline of the leprechaun hat to the top most transparent paper.

After copying the outline, you can remove the clips and cut the leprechaun hat out.

The next step is to make the black belt and golden buckle of the hat. To make the belt, cut a rectangular white piece of paper.

The measurements we took for this rectangular paper belt are:

  • Length of the paper belt: 9cm
  • Breadth of the paper belt: 2cm

Draw the belt’s buckle in the middle as shown in the picture above.

Now, paint the paper belt yellow and black.

Stick it on top of the leprechaun hat.

Now, to hang this St.Patrick’s Day suncatcher, make a hole on top of the hat and hang it using yarn or ribbon.

That’s it!
