Printable Leprechaun Hat craft for St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is here and as a creative mama or teacher, it’s time to do some crafts with your kids for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
St. Patrick’s Day is a joyful celebration of Irish culture and heritage, observed on March 17th each year. This holiday honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. One of the most iconic symbols associated with St. Patrick’s Day is the mischievous leprechaun, a mythical creature from Irish folklore known for its love of mischief and hidden pot of gold.
In Irish mythology, little leprechauns were thought to be solitary creatures who spent their time making and mending shoes, while also engaging in playful pranks. They are often portrayed as cunning and quick-witted, outsmarting those who attempt to capture them.
The image of the leprechaun has become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day, adding a touch of whimsy and enchantment to the festivities.
So, we thought why not do a leprechaun hat craft? Kids will have fun making their own cute leprechaun hats to wear for the celebration.

Step 2: Color the hat
Let kids give color to the leprechaun hat. Let them use the typical St. Patrick’s Day green, black, and yellow to make the cute leprechaun hat.
You can use any coloring tools. We used poster paint here to get the vivid rich colors of St. Patrick’s Day.
Next, they can color the two shamrock leaves.
Step 2: Make a black band for the hat
To make the leprechaun hat headband, take black color construction paper.
And cut it into two rectangles as shown in the above picture. There is no particular size to follow. You can make a band that fits your child’s head.
Stick the ends of the rectangular pieces to each other to form a long headband. Place this on your child’s head and measure the length needed for them.
Now, stick the leprechaun hat to the center of the headband.
Paste the shamrock leaves onto the hat as decorative pieces.
If you have measured the circumference required for the headband in the previous step, you can fasten the ends together with glue.
That’s it. We have our St. Patrick’s Day craft ready!
