How to make a paper rose with stem easily (Step-by-step instructions)
There isn’t anyone who has not admired the beauty of a rose flower. Well, we can almost recreate the beauty of the original rose by making a paper rose too.
This step-by-step tutorial to make a paper rose is easy; for kids and beginners.
You can make this paper rose using any paper available at home. But making it using colored paper will definitely make the flower look more attractive.

Materials required:
– Color papers (any color for rose and green color for stem)
– Ruler, Pencil and Scissors
– Glue
Step-by-step photo tutorial to make a paper rose for kids (and beginners)
STEP 1: Cut the paper
Take an A4 color paper (or letter size). Here we took red paper.
We need square paper to make the petals, therefore cut a square of length 20 cm from the A4 paper and remove the excess.
Now we have a 20 cm square paper.
STEP 2: Fold the paper to make four more squares
Take the square paper we just cut. Fold it in half from top to bottom and make a crease (2a and 2b).
Now fold it again in half from left to right (or vice versa) and make another crease (2c and 2d).
STEP 3: Cut the squares
Cut along the creases and now you will have four square pieces (3a and 3b).
STEP 4: Make the petals of the rose
a. Take one of the square pieces and fold it into half horizontally from bottom to top (4a).
b. Fold it again from left to right to make a smaller square (4b).
c. Now fold from the left top side of the square to right bottom, to make a triangle shape (4c).
d. Now, draw a semi-circle in the middle and cut along the semi-circle (starting from the right bottom side) to remove the top portion (4d).
e. Now cut a small hole at the pointed end.
f. Repeat the steps from 4a to 4e with the rest of the 3 square papers.
g. Open up the papers and you will get a petal shape with a hole at the center.
h. Now we have 4 petal shapes.
STEP 5: Cut segments
a. Take any petal shape. Cut one segment from it (5a). You can discard the segment you just cut out. Save the remaining part with 7 segments.
b. Take the second petal shape. Cut two segments from it (5b). You can discard the two segments and save the remaining part of the flower with 6 segments.
c. Take the third petal shape.
When you cut three segments from it, you will be left with a shape with five segments (5c).
Along with the segment we just cut out which has three segments, save the leftover cutout with five segments, as we need both to make the rose flower.
d. Take the fourth petal shape. Cut four segments from it (5d). Save one of the parts with four segments and discard the rest.
Note: Except for one segment (step c), you can discard the parts you are cutting out.
e. When you cut the third petal shape and save the cutout with 5 segments (step c), you will be left with five petal pieces in total, like in the above picture (5e).
STEP 6: Stick the petals end to end to form each layer
a. Now, take each petal piece starting from big to small, and stick the end segments on top of one another to form each layer of the petal.
b. Do this on all five petal pieces and you will get five layers of the rose’s petal (6b).
STEP 7: Make the sepal of rose
a. Take a piece of green color paper and cut a square of length 5 cm (7a).
b. Fold the paper in half horizontally (from bottom to top – 7b)
c. Fold it again (from left to right- 7c)
d. Make a crease (7d)
e. Now fold it from the left top side to the right bottom side to form a triangle (7e).
f. Now we have to make two cuts on two sides of the triangle. As shown in the picture, draw a horizontal line perpendicular to vertex A of the triangle. Cut along the line (7f).
g. Draw another line parallel to the side AB. Cut along the line (7g).
h. Now, to make a hole, make a small cut at the third vertex (vertex C). And open up the paper to get the sepal shape (7h).
Step 8: Make the stem of the paper rose flower
Take a green paper and cut a square of size 15 cm.
Starting from one corner, roll the paper as thinly as possible. When you reach the opposite corner, apply glue and stick it.
STEP 9: Insert the petals and sepals into the stem
Starting from the smallest petal layer, insert the layers one by one into the stem you just made.
And finally, insert the sepal and apply some glue to the inner portion of the sepal to stick it to the bottom portion of the largest petal to secure the flower.
Step 10: Curl the petals
Curl the edges of each petal segment outwards to make it look real.
And thus the easy paper rose flower is ready.
Go to this tutorial to make a beautiful paper vase to put these paper roses in. For this paper vase, it’s best to make a smaller paper rose. We recommend taking a 10 cm paper square to make the smaller rose instead of 20 cm.
