Handprint Penguin Craft
Bundle up and waddle into some cozy winter crafting with this sweet handprint penguin!
So here’s the fun part: little hands become the star of the show.
A simple traced handprint turns into a chubby penguin body, and then a soft white belly, wiggly googly eyes, and a bright orange beak bring your child’s very own penguin friend to life right on the paper.
And the best bit?
Tracing, cutting, and gluing keep tiny fingers busy and happy, so it’s perfect for chilly afternoons when everyone is snuggled up indoors with a mug of hot cocoa nearby.
Plus, it makes such a lovely keepsake because it captures just how small those hands are this winter.
So grab your supplies, gather the kids around the table, and let’s make a friendly little penguin together!
Before moving on to the craft, we would appreciate it very much if you would check out our YouTube channel and subscribe to it.

How to make a handprint penguin
Step 1: Trace and cut the handprint

Place your child’s hand on a sheet of black construction paper and trace around it with a pencil.
Carefully cut along the outline to create the penguin’s body. Keep all five fingers together as part of the shape, as they will become the penguin’s flippers and feet.

Step 2: Add the white belly

Draw and cut a large oval shape from white paper.
Apply glue to the back and stick it onto the center of the black handprint. This will create the penguin’s white face and belly area.
Step 3: Add the eyes and beak

Take two googly eyes and glue them near the top of the white section. Place them side by side to give your penguin a cute and playful expression.
Draw a small beak shape on orange paper and carefully cut it out.
Apply a little glue and stick the beak underneath the eyes. Press it gently into place and allow the glue to dry.

Final Words
What we love most about this craft is how kids get to turn their very own handprint into an adorable little character.
And while they’re having fun, they’re also practicing simple tracing, cutting, and gluing skills without even noticing.
So why stop at just one? Trace a few different handprints, big ones from mom and dad and tiny ones from the little ones, and you’ll have a whole waddling penguin family in no time.
And if you’d like to add a little extra cheer, give your penguins a snowy background, cozy little hats, or a few sparkly winter touches.
It’s such a simple craft, yet the result is so sweet you’ll want to keep it on display all season long!
