Materials Required:

Note: To do this craft, we used construction paper. However, if you have cardstock, you can use that to make the face of the elf man, to make it sturdier. We made it successfully with construction paper, so using cardstock is optional.

However, folding a cardstock paper can be a little bit tricky. Watch this video to learn how to do the folding properly.

  • Construction papers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Protractor (or any tool to cut circles)
  • Color pencils
  • Decorative items of your choice(optional)

Steps for making the Rocking paper elf man

Step 1: Making the elf hat

Take a colored paper and cut it into a size of 15×21 cm. Fold the paper in half and make a crease. Make sure you are folding the paper along the longer side (ie, along the width of the 21 cm side).

Now, fold the paper in half again and make a crease.

Next, fold from the top right edge towards the crease passing through the center of the paper. And make a crease.

Similarly, fold the top left edge of the paper towards the center and make a crease. This is similar to one of the steps in making the traditional paper boat.

Now, we have some space left below the folded area. We will fold the paper again from the bottom in an upward direction. Follow the steps shown in the picture above and you will get the idea.

Here, we are folding exactly two times. First, make a fold upwards so that you cover half the height, and then fold again.

Apply some glue to the backside of the second fold we just made and stick it to the paper.

Turn the paper over and repeat this step again and you will get the shape of the elf hat.

Step 2: Making the face of the elf man

Now, let’s make the face of the elf man.

Here, we chose a cream-colored paper to make the elf’s face.

So, on this paper, place the elf hat on the creamand mark three points as shown in the picture. The endpoints should come in between the triangular shape of the hat.

Join the 3 dots to get a straight line and now this is the diameter of the circle we are going to make. And the dot at the center is the center of the circle.

You don’t have to necessarily join the dots and draw a line, but use them as reference points.

So, draw a circle with the points as reference and cut it out of the paper.

Now, fold the paper from top to bottom and make a crease as shown in the picture.

When you open the fold partially and place it on a flat surface, the folded paper should be able to stand on its own as shown in the fourth pic of the collage.

Now, insert the folded circle into the elf hat.

Decorate the hat by sticking some paper hearts (or any shape or materials you like) onto the elf hat.

Draw the eyes and mouth.
