Homemade rocket craft (with step-by-step pictures)
Step 1: Making the body of rocket
Get all the materials ready.
Start by measuring the length of the toilet paper roll on the construction paper. Mark the height of the body of the rocket on paper using a pencil.
Now, cut the marked rectangular piece out. The length of the paper should be the height of the body of the rocket we marked in the above step.
And make the width of the paper longer than the circumference of the paper roll. Here we took the original width of the construction paper and didn’t cut it shorter.
Now, apply glue onto the paper roll and stick it to one end of the paper. Wrap the paper around the paper roll.
Secure the end with glue.
Step 2: Making the cone and base of the paper rocket
To make the cone, cut a circle out from the paper you want to use. Here we took a patterned square paper of size 15 cm.
There is no particular size for the cone because it depends on the circumference of the toilet paper roll you use.
So, before cutting, take an approximate measurement of the circle’s circumference. It must be more than the circumference of the paper roll. Keep in mind that when we make the cone, the circumference will get smaller.
It is okay if you take a larger circumference than required. After, making the cone you can cut the extra length off.
After cutting the circle out, make a vertical cut on the paper till the center of the circle. In other words, make a cut along the radius of the circle.
Make a cone as shown in the picture. Secure the ends in place with glue.
Apply glue to the edge of the toilet paper roll and stick the cone of the rocket to the edge.
Now, let’s move on to making the base of the rocket. Here we are gonna make some flames for the rocket.
Take a sheet of tissue paper (you can use normal paper too, if you don’t mind the stiffness) and cut them into thin rectangular pieces as shown in the picture.
Apply some glue to the base of the toilet paper tube and stick the pieces of tissue paper into the inner part of the tube.
Paste some shapes onto the body of the rocket. These are the windows of the rocket. Let kids decide what shape or design they want for the windows and do accordingly. Kids can use their own creativity and bring different ideas for embellishment.
And, thus our tissue paper roll rocket is ready!
