- Yellow construction paper
- Green popsicle sticks
- Scissors
- Glue
- A pencil
- A black marker
- Green paint and a paintbrush, if using plain popsicle sticks
How to Make Popsicle Stick Poppy Flowers
Step 1: Cut and fold the red circles
Start by taking a sheet of red construction paper and drawing several circles on it using a pencil.
Carefully cut out the circles with scissors. These circles will become the petals of your poppy flowers.
Once the circles are cut out, fold each one in half. Do not crease the fold too heavily, as keeping the shape slightly open will help create the dimensional look of the petals.
Set the folded circles aside while you prepare the other pieces.
Step 2: Prepare the leaves and flower centers
Now it’s time to prepare the greenery and the centers of the poppies.
Take a sheet of green construction paper and draw several simple leaf shapes. Cut each leaf out carefully with scissors and keep them aside for later.
Next, take your black construction paper and cut out small circles. These will form the dark centers of the poppy flowers.
You should now have your red folded petals, green leaves, and black flower centers ready to assemble.
Step 3: Assemble the 3D poppy flower
Take one of the black circles and glue it onto a yellow sheet of paper (or any color you like) to serve as the background for your flower display.
Now, arrange the folded red circles around the dark center to create the petals.
Apply glue to only one side of each folded circle and attach it around the black or brown circle, leaving the other folded side free.
Continue adding the petals until you have four folded petals around the center. Since only one side of each petal is glued down, the other side stays raised, giving the poppy a lovely 3D effect.
Step 4: Make the poppy stems
Repeat the previous steps to make 2–3 poppy flowers.

If you don’t have green popsicle sticks, you can use regular wooden popsicle sticks and paint them green first.
Allow the paint to dry completely before attaching them to the flowers.
Step 5: Add the leaves
Finally, bring out the green leaves you prepared earlier. Draw a few simple veins on each leaf to make it look more realistic before attaching it to your flower.
Apply a small amount of glue to each leaf and attach them along the green popsicle stick stems.
Place the leaves at different heights and angles rather than lining them up in the same position.

Allow the glue to dry completely, and your colorful poppy flower bunch is ready!
